Have you had a look at the sudden spurt of growth on your plants? On the nursery side it is amazing to see just how well and sudden change there has been to growth stimulation. One can only wonder if its the plants knowing that the cooler day are approaching and thus taking advantage of the last few weeks of the season.

Something I think everyone will "like" this month is our free givaways. Yes during March we will be giving away 200 plus Restios, namely Elegia tecotum or as it used to be called Chondropetalem tectorum ie thatching grass (for those who prefer less latin).

Hello Aloe, Hello Sunshine

So its August, rainy cold and smack in probably the wettest month in Cape Town. This might be so but have you noticed all the radiant color emanating from all our fantastic Aloes and other succulent species. Yes nature really does have its own ways in lifting our spirits. I find it amazing to witness how all the fiery reds and oranges are all in full bloom and perfect display. It might be cold and wet but these plants and combinations have a characteristic way of adding warmth when its most needed.  I’ am sure there must be a few botanists out there who could explain why so many of these spectacular inflorescences are all so distinctive in red, oranges.

Asked what all the buzz is about, Scott Hogg of Plant Culture Nursery sheds some light on the topic. Scott holds a diploma in Landscape Technology with Horticulture and the owner of a production tree and shrub nursery outside Somerset West. He has been in the landscaping industry for over 14 years and supplies a number of landscapers and private individuals with planting material.
